You can buy an aloe vera plant from pretty much any garden nursery or get them online too. You can try starting your own aloe vera plants by cutting off a few leaves from an aloe vera plant and then put the cut ends down in a container of potting mix. Some of them might not grow but some of them will sport tiny leaves at the base. After this new plant as grown a few inches, you can repot it again. 

Aloe Vera is a succulent and doesn’t need much care. You can grow aloe vera indoors anywhere in the world. They can survive all weathers and they have water-storing capabilities that are best for people who forget to water their plants. You can check our post about cacti and succulent care. 

Aloe vera grows fast and you will notice new smaller plants growing from the root. You can cut them and repot them in a different pot. Grow as many as you like and share it with your friends.

Benefits of your homegrown Aloe Vera

If you cut the Aloe Vera leaves, you will notice they contain a clear gel that’s a popular home remedy. It has cooling and healing effects which you can apply to the skin. You can use it to heal first and second-degree burns. Due to its healing properties, you can also apply it on your skin if u suffer from eczema or skin dryness and irritation. I had an eczema outburst recently and someone gave me an Aloe Vera tube gel to apply. The tube said it was 99.99% aloe vera but I realized that I had the actual thing, I had 100% Aloe Vera and it felt much better.

Applying aloe vera on skin also helps reduce acne and redness on skin caused by certain skin conditions. 
Some people use the aloe vera gel as a hair conditioner or makeup removal. 
Although you can digest the aloe vera gel, I recommend you do not eat too much. 

To get aloe vera gel or juice you can split the spike lengthwise and scoop out the contents with a spoon. The great news is as long as you keep your plant healthy it will keep on making more.
